MP visits PSS to champion ‘Circular Economy’
Norman Lamb MP was given a warm welcome as he recently toured the facilities of steering and hydraulics experts PSS.
The member for North Norfolk visited the North Walsham factory to discover first-hand how they return used steering components to original or better condition.
“It’s great to see a local company playing such a leading role in the circular economy” said Norman Lamb. “It’s vital we find ways to get the most from our resources and PSS have put themselves at the forefront of remanufacturing. The fact they’re also a significant exporter of new components is another great example of the ingenuity and enterprise we deliver in our region.”
The circular economy is the name given to the increasing number of companies re-processing manufactured goods to give them a second useful life. As energy and resources become more precious, it’s becoming a fast-growing part of the UK and global economy.
PSS remanufacture steering components for commercial vehicles and can return used steering pumps, motors and boxes to as-new condition for any HGV, bus, coach or van on UK roads. In addition, they manufacture over 60,000 new components each year for some of the world’s leading manufacturers of off-highway vehicles, such as forklifts, diggers and ride-on mowers. PSS’s Series 600 steering pump features in every serving US Humvee military vehicle.
The Liberal Democrat MP was given a guided tour of PSS’s operations, including their new clean room. Opened in September 2017 at a cost of over £100,000, it is used to assemble both new and remanufactured components in the same clean environment. This sets a new standard for automotive remanufacturing in the UK.
Ian Sinclair, Business Development Manager for PSS, said “We were delighted to have Norman visit. He’s very supportive of the leadership we’re demonstrating in both remanufacturing and manufacturing. Almost every supply chain in the UK relies on a goods vehicle featuring one of our remanufactured components. We’re a proud British business with big ambitions.”
“PSS is an excellent advert for North Norfolk and the national and international role our businesses can play” concludes Norman Lamb. “They’re putting quality and innovation first and recognising the global influence we can have in both manufacturing and the emerging circular economy.”
